The isolation of crystalline erythritol from normal human urine.

چکیده
With the finding that xylitol is an intermediate in the glucuronate-xylulose pathway (2, 3)) experiments were undertaken to determine whether this pentitol occurs in human urine. Instead of xylitol, the analyses led to the isolation of n-arabitol from pentosuric urine as well as nL-arabitol from normal urine (4). During the fractionation of urinary polyols on Dowex l-borate columns, eluates were also found to contain a substance with the paper chromatographic behavior of a tetritol. Purification of these fractions yielded crystalline erythritol. This paper describes the procedures used in the isolation and identification of erythritol from the urine of two normal fasting men.

Growth and Isolation of Human Cytomegalovirus on a New Human Fetal Foreskin Fibroblast-derived Cell Line in Iran
Cell culture technique has been used for detection and confirmation of many different viruses in clinical samples. Although, new diagnostic methods have been developed for viral infections, traditional cell culturetechnique is still regarded as the “gold standard” for several infectious agents such as human cytomegalovirus(HCMV). In the present study, a new human fetal foreskin fibr...
متن کاملPhenol Based RNA Isolation is the Optimum Method for Study of Gene Expression in Human Urinary Sediment
Evaluation of gene expression in urinary sediment has been considered as a promising non-invasive approach for biomarker identification of kidney diseases. Nonetheless, there are several challenges in extraction of RNA from this valuable source of biomarkers, mostly because of the factors that have influence on quality of isolated RNA such as low cellular content. Accordingly, we compared the q...
متن کاملIsolation of steroids from the urine of patients with adrenal cortical tumors and adrenal cortical hyperplasia; a new 17-ketosteroid, androstane-3 (alpha) 11-diol-17-one.
Information on the metabolism of the steroid hormones has been obtained largely by injection of known amount,s of the crystalline hormones and isolation of the steroids which subsequently appeared in the urine (1). Experiments of t’his type wit,h the adrenal hormones necessarily have been limited in scope by the limited available supply of crystalline adrenzl steroids. Some additional informati...
متن کاملMetabolism of erythritol in humans: comparison with glucose and lactitol.
The metabolism of erythritol was assessed in six normal volunteers by measuring the amount of 13CO2 excretion and H2 excretion in breath, and erythritol in urine after intake of 25 g 13C-labelled erythritol. The results were compared with the same variables obtained after intake of 25 g 13C-labelled glucose and 13C-labelled lactitol. In addition, the H2 production by faecal flora supplemented w...
متن کاملHydrolysis of Conjugates of Urinary Corticoids with P-glucuronidase
Hydrolysis of conjugates of urinary neutral reducing lipides by means of /?-glucuronidase of bacterial origin, as described in Paper I of this series (I), permits the extraction from urine of much larger amounts of these substances than may be obtained by extraction of acidified urine in separatory funnels. The isolation of a crystalline reducing steroid from normal urine which had been treated...
